Perfect Choice Funeral Plans are brought to you by Ecclesiastical Planning Services which is part of the Ecclesiastical Group. Ecclesiastical is a specialist, UK-based financial services group which has been protecting people, property and funds since it was founded in 1887.

Perfect Choice Funeral Plans are carried out by funeral directing firms that are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). NAFD members carry out over 80% of all funerals in the UK and comply with a strict code of practice so you can be sure that your funeral will be of the highest possible standard. Ecclesiastical Planning Services is registered with the Funeral Planning Authority which exists to protect consumers’ interests across the funeral planning sector in the UK.

Both Ecclesiastical and NAFD are passionate about customer care so you’re in safe hands. With a Perfect Choice Funeral Plan you can be sure of the highest standards of help and advice, outstanding financial security and an exceptional level of support for your family when the time comes.

The money from your plan is held securely by a life assurance company in a whole of life assurance policy. Unlike some pre paid funeral plans, every penny of the full value of a Perfect Choice plan (excluding the initial management fee) is held securely and ring-fenced for your funeral when the time comes. What’s more, to ensure maximum financial security, Ecclesiastical Planning Services only works with UK-based life assurance companies that are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and regulated by the PRA and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Funeral plans themselves are not regulated by the PRA or FCA but Ecclesiastical Planning Services is registered with the Funeral Planning Authority.

What does a Perfect Choice Funeral Plan cover?

A Perfect Choice Funeral Plan guarantees that the funeral director’s costs, as listed in the plan details, will be covered, no matter how much prices rise. As long as we carry out your funeral and your requirements don’t change, your family won’t be asked to pay a penny more for your funeral director’s costs regardless of how long you live or what happens to costs in the meantime. You can also make a contribution towards third party costs which are outside of the funeral director’s control and cannot be guaranteed.

We offer a range of set plans which include:

The services of your funeral director
Provision of the necessary funeral arrangements
Professional advice on certification and registration of death
Conveyance of the deceased to the funeral director’s premises (within a 25 mile radius)
Care of the deceased until the cremation or burial takes place
Provision of a coffin
A hearse to convey the deceased to the nearest crematorium or cemetery
The Simple, Traditional and Complete plans include a number of additional features and services.

We also offer a Personal Plan which can be completely tailored to your wishes and allows you to select your funeral director and make your wishes known in advance. All of our plans are very flexible and you can make changes at any time. There may be more to pay if you require additional services or upgrades.

What the plan does not cover

The Simple, Traditional and Complete plans also include an allowance towards the fees for cremation, medical fees for cremation certificates and payment to a minister of officiant. These costs are outside the control of your funeral director. Only if these costs were to increase more than the growth of the plan would there be further costs at the time of the funeral.

What to ask before buying a pre-paid funeral plan

There is an abundance of funeral plan and funeral insurance providers in the UK and it can be difficult to navigate your way through the maze and find the best provider.

There are, however, a few questions to ask and things to look out for when buying a funeral plan. For example, consider the following:

Does the plan allow you to choose the funeral director? A good funeral plan allows you to make this choice.
What if your chosen funeral director goes out of business? Check whether you are able to transfer your plan to a new funeral director.
What happens if the person the funeral is intended for dies abroad? In most cases, your travel insurance will cover the cost of repatriation. You should check carefully that you have the appropriate level of cover depending on your travel needs.
Can the funeral director arrange a funeral of a different standard from the one you have chosen? Check whether you can tailor your plan to your individual wishes and make changes at a later date.
Is it possible to cancel the plan if circumstances change – for example, if you’ve arranged for your spouse’s funeral but you later separate? Are there any cancellation charges? A good plan will allow you to cancel it if your circumstances change.
What if there are outstanding payments at death? Check if your plan allows you to use the payments you have made as a contribution to your funeral.
What freedom do you have to change the details of your funeral plan? The best plans allow you to make changes if your requirements change.

Other things to look out for include transport of the deceased to the funeral director’s premises, advice on the registration of the death and collection of paperwork and collection for charitable donations.

The best providers don’t simply provide you with the plan. They also offer your nearest and dearest support from a local funeral director at the time when they need it the most.

Funeral plans come with an abundance of options, so it is important to take the time to go through the available products and services carefully and choose the plan that best meets your needs.
